In the begining Helaman 1-10

Today we begin, with, well, the beginning on Helaman 1-10, remember to procrastinate not! Also one doesn't have to be up to date with reading to comment, your comments are welcome anytime! The prizes will however be tied to staying on schedule.

Oh here is a thought from the Dadoo...

We know that Nephi received the sealing power from the Lord from this verse in Helaman 10, is anyone aware of instances where sealings are documented in the BoM?

Helaman 10:7 Behold, I give unto you apower, that whatsoever ye shall bseal on earth shall be sealed in heaven; and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven; and thus shall ye have power among this people.

Love,

Dadoo

  • Dadoo!

Here is my summary for the first reading assignment: Helaman 1-10. I
wrote a quick summary for each chapter as I read, so altogether it is
    quite a novel. :)

Hel. 1: There is a lot of rivalry, rebellion, and revenge in this
first chapter of Helaman. Many are slain and contentions continue to
rise. The cycle of pride circling through much of the land had awful
consequences as presented through these family rebellions and hateful
acts. Thankfully, Moronihah is a righteous leader to help to bring
    peace to his people.

Hel 2: Gadianton leads the group of Kishkumen - an interesting event
occurs in which a servant of Helaman tricks Kishkumen into thinking
that he will help him murder Helaman at the judgement seat, but ends
up killing Kishkumen in the process. I wonder if this was just as bad
an act as that which Kishkumen was intending to commit. Was this
killing by Helaman's servant warranted? Is it like when Nephi killed
    Laban?

Hel 3: It is amazing to see the huge growth that takes place in the
church during Helaman's time of leadership. It says these were tens
of thousands of baptisms! (v. 26).

Hel 4: I liked verse 13 of this chapter; it says that because of the
Nephites wickedness, they were left in their own strength. This is
interesting because they also were acknowledging their prosperity to
be of their own doings. Ironically, it was not, but because they
believed this, their belief becomes true and thus they begin to lose
the very thing they were boasting about.

Hel 5: Nephi and Lehi act as missionaries, preaching to the people.
It is amazing to see how Heavenly Father protects those who serve Him.
In this chapter Nephi and Lehi are encircled by fire and not burned!
Through this and the darkness and call to repentence given to the
group of people who witnessed it, these 300 people became faithful
servants and began to preach the gospel to many more.

Hel 6: It's nice to see how in verse 7, the Lamanites and the
Nephites are at peace with one another; they would trade and buy and
sell from each other and did prosper in their peace. It is
frustrating however, to see how quickly their prosperity leads to
    pride and wickedness.

Hel 7: Nephi preaches harshly unto the Nephites. One part of his
speaking that I found most interesting was when he said that the
Lamanites are more righteous than them and that they had not sinned
against the knowledge that the Nephites had. With knowledge comes a
responsibility to live what we know, just as we are to learn from our
    mistakes.

Hel 8: Many people are upset with Nephi because "he spoke plainly"
unto them. It was apparently hard for them to hear the truth. Nephi
preaches to the people more and even announces the murder of the chief
    judge through inspiration given him.

Hel 9: This chapter is almost like a good mystery, expect for the fact
that Nephi already revealed the murderer. It's amazing that even
after that, they go on to accuse 6 others before even questioning the
brother whom Nephi said it was to begin with. No wonder Nephi is so
harsh and plain with these people they are so blind and hard-hearted.

Hel 10: Nephi is given instructions to command the people to repent
or they will be destroyed. He then is carried by the Spirit to tell
everyone of this commandment. However, people's hearts are heardened
and they do not hearken to his words.

  • i grandadoo!

I have been practicing how to pray this week! I can fold my arms and
bow my head and close my heads. I can even mumble a little bit while
I pray in a reverent voice, just like mommy and daddy. I also read
scriptures with mommy and daddy a couple of times. I learned that
pages of the Book of Mormon are very fragile and I need to be gentle
with them so they won't rip. Also, I went to nursery by myself for
the first time today! I learned about patience. I also colored some
pictures and played with toys. I didn't whine for my mommy even once!
I was a big girl and a good example to the other kids.

    Bye!

    -Emma

P.S. I am looking forward to a prize in a few weeks! I will continue
to work hard to earn it! :)

  • Dear Dadoo's Book of Mormon challenge readers!

Dadoo asked a question regarding where else in the Book of Mormon sealings are documented.... I stumbled across the following link on lds.org (while trying to plan my FHE). The link should prove helpful in locating these instances:

  • Hi hello everyone! I figured I ought to start posting things... so here is my first one! One scripture that I liked was Helaman 5:30. It talks about how the voice and promptings of the Spirit can be very small, but powerful all the same.
